Lesson 4

Making the Moves

Let’s draw and describe translations, rotations, and reflections.

Problem 1

For each pair of polygons, describe a sequence of translations, rotations, and reflections that takes Polygon P to Polygon Q.

  1. two of the same figure on an isometric grid in different orientations and position
  2. two of the same figure on an isometric grid in different orientations and position
  3. two of the same figure in different orientations and position.

Problem 2

Here is quadrilateral \(ABCD\) and line \(\ell\).

Quadrilateral \(A \)  \(B\)   \(C\)   \(D\) and dashed line \(l\) with a positive slope. \(B\)  \(C\) is parallel to line \(l\).

Draw the image of quadrilateral \(ABCD\) after reflecting it across line \(\ell\).

(From Unit 1, Lesson 2.)

Problem 3

Here is quadrilateral \(ABCD\).

Quadrilateral A B C D. A B, A D and D C all have negative slopes. B C has a positive slope. A B C D has no parallel sides and no right angles.

Draw the image of quadrilateral \(ABCD\) after each rotation using \(B\) as center.

  1. 90 degrees clockwise
  2. 120 degrees clockwise
  3. 30 degrees counterclockwise
(From Unit 1, Lesson 2.)
